PARTNERSHIP EVENTS
DEER CREEK WORK PROJECT - SATURDAY JUNE 28TH
Location: Deer Creek trail in Sage Creek Roadless Area
Time: Meet at Pete & Judy Riede's cabin at 9:30 AM.
Directions: Turn west on WY 238 at Afton. Turn south onto Crow Creek Rd. Follow this road to the cabin. From Highway 89 the distance to the Riede cabin is 17.7 miles.
Project: Trail maintenance, including pruning/clipping/cutting brush, cutting out downed trees, trail tread repair and reconstruction.
WHAT to bring: Work gloves, appropriate clothing, insect repellent, water, lunch, pruners, loppers, and a Pulaski if you have one.
Pot luck dinner: Saturday evening at Pete & Judy's cabin. Judy will provide a pot of her famous "white chili". Please bring a side dish or dessert. Grills will be available if you would prefer to cook something different. The Greater Yellowstone Coalition (GYC) will provide beverages for the cook out.
Camping, hiking, fishing: If you would like to stay over until Sunday, Pete and Judy have several places you can pitch a tent, or whatever and camp over on Pete and Judy's ranch. There are hiking trails, waters to fish, or wildlife to watch on Sunday. If you do decide to stay over you should bring whatever you need for breakfast.
BLACKFOOT RIVER WMA WORK PROJECT - SATURDAY JULY 12TH
Location: Blackfoot River Wildlife Management Area
Time: Meet at the Blackfoot Wildlife Management Area (WMA) cabin at 10 AM.
Directions:From Soda Springs, travel north on State Highway 34 for 10.5 miles to the Blackfoot River Road. Turn east and follow the Blackfoot River for 15 miles. Once you break out of “the Narrows”, drive another mile
to the WMA sign and entry gate. We will have a sign posted on the gate to alert you of the place.
Project: Remove old fence on the timbered ridge on the south side of the Management Area.
WHAT to bring: Work gloves, insect repellent, appropriate clothing and footwear, water, and a lunch.
Pot luck dinner: The Greater Yellowstone Coalition (GYC) will provide a veggie entree, and Dutch oven beans. Please bring a side dish or dessert. We'll also have grills available so that you can cook burgers or whatever. GYC will provide beverages.
Camping, fishing, wildlife viewing: If you would like to stay over until Sunday, there are several places you can pitch a tent, pull in a camper, or you can sleep in one of the dorm bedrooms in the cabin (there are bunk beds, but you will need a sleeping bag). There are waters to fish, or wildlife to watch on Sunday. If you do decide to stay over you should bring whatever you need for breakfast.
DEER CREEK HIKE - SATURDAY JULY 19TH
Location: Deer Creek trail in Sage Creek Roadless Area
Time: Meet at Pete & Judy Riede's cabin at 10:00 AM.
Directions: Turn west on WY 238 at Afton. Turn south onto Crow Creek Rd. Follow this road to the cabin. From Highway 89 the distance to the Riede cabin is 17.7 miles.
WHAT to bring: Appropriate shoes, clothing, insect repellent, binoculars, water, and a lunch.
Hike: 5 miles of moderate to strenuous hiking through the Sage Creek Roadless Area. This hike will be a great opportunity to witness area wildlife, avian friends and wildflowers. There will be Partnership staff along to answer any questions concerning current phosphate mining issues and how selenium directly affects the future of the landscape around Deer Creek. The hike will take about five hours.
NATE CANYON HIKE - SATURDAY AUGUST 9TH
Location: Nate Canyon in Sage Creek Roadless Area
Time: Meet at Pete & Judy Riede's cabin at 10;00 AM.
Directions: Turn west on WY 238 at Afton. Turn south onto Crow Creek Rd. Follow this road to the cabin. From Highway 89 the distance to the Riede cabin is 17.7 miles.
WHAT to bring: Appropriate shoes, clothing, insect repellent, binoculars, water, and a lunch.
Hike: 4.5 miles of moderate hiking through the Sage Creek Roadless Area. This hike should take about four hours. You will see areas that could soon be destroyed if phophate plans are approved by federal agencies. There will be opportunities to see wildlife and enjoy clean mountain air and views. CCWP has many new members so take time to come out and meet other people helping to make sure our public lands are respected and protected.
